Oracle Pays Nearly $100 Million in GSA Damages

The $98.5 million settlement with Oracle announced by the Justice Department on October 10, 2006 reminds us that disclosures and certifications we make during the process of getting and maintaining a government contract can have negative consequences far beyond what most people can imagine. In this case, Oracle paid back almost half of the $204M in top-line revenue received under a General Services Administration Multiple Award Schedule contract inherited with its PeopleSoft acquisition in 2004. The whistleblower in this case, a former PeopleSoft employee, collected $17,730,000 under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act (FCA).
