Section 508: Problem or Opportunity?

On June 21, 2001 disabled federal employees will be able to sue the government if they cannot use the same electronic equipment and access the same data as their able-bodied counterparts. The accessibility standards for compliance were adopted December 21, 2000 beginning a six-month countdown to the compliance deadline. The statute establishing this requirement was enacted in 1998 as an amendment to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
